What is UniFi Access, and who is it a good fit for?

UniFi Access is a modern door access control platform that helps businesses manage entry with keycards, mobile credentials, schedules, and remote administration. It is a strong fit for offices, suites, warehouses, retail spaces, and other organizations that want more control and visibility than traditional keys can provide.

Can UniFi Access replace our existing keys, fobs, or older door entry system?

In many cases, yes. UniFi Access can often replace older key, fob, or badge-based systems, depending on your current doors, locks, wiring, and hardware. The right path depends on your existing setup and whether your doors need readers, electric strikes, maglocks, request-to-exit devices, or other supporting components.

Can we unlock or manage doors remotely?

Yes. UniFi Access allows authorized administrators to view door status, unlock doors remotely, manage users, and review access events from a centralized interface. This is especially useful for businesses that need to grant temporary access, support multiple sites, or manage entry after hours.

Does UniFi Access support keycards, mobile access, and PIN entry?

UniFi Access can support multiple credential methods depending on the hardware selected, including cards, mobile credentials, and PIN-based entry options. The best mix depends on your security goals, convenience needs, and the type of doors being secured.

Can access be scheduled by employee, team, or time of day?

Yes. Access permissions can be assigned based on users, groups, schedules, and door-specific rules. That makes it easier to give staff access only to the areas they need, during the times they should have it, instead of handing out one key that opens everything.

Will we be able to see who entered and when?

Yes. UniFi Access provides event logs that help businesses review door activity, user access events, unlock actions, and related timestamps. This gives organizations much better visibility than a traditional key system, where there is usually no meaningful audit trail.

Can UniFi Access work with our UniFi cameras or broader UniFi environment?

It can be a strong fit for organizations already using UniFi, especially when they want a more unified management experience across networking, cameras, and physical access systems. The exact level of integration depends on the hardware and deployment design, but many businesses like keeping these systems in a familiar ecosystem.

What happens if an employee leaves or loses a credential?

That is one of the biggest advantages of electronic access control. Instead of rekeying doors, administrators can disable or change credentials quickly. This reduces risk, saves time, and gives businesses a more practical way to handle turnover, lost cards, or temporary access needs.

Do we need special door hardware or electrical work?

Sometimes. Access control projects often depend on the type of door, frame, lock hardware, fire and life safety requirements, and available wiring. Some doors are straightforward, while others require new hardware, low-voltage work, or coordination with a locksmith or door professional. A site review is the best way to determine what is needed.

Can KeyMSP help design and install a UniFi Access solution for our business?

Yes. KeyMSP can help evaluate your entry points, identify the right UniFi Access hardware, plan the deployment, and recommend a practical setup based on your business needs. That includes helping you think through convenience, security, remote management, and future growth before hardware is ordered or installed.
